The soaring oil prices have brought unprecedented impacts to the economy. It causes inflation, higher material cost, steady rise of production cost, and squeeze our profits. However, printers seldom increase unit price for their print products. Why? Printers always called this phenomenon ¡§laughable¡¨.
Print product is classified as the accessories item of the finished goods or services. Companies advertise using brochures, companies sell shoe with packaging boxes, companies finish a business transaction with an invoice. Print product does not have its own brand. It plays as the second fiddle to the customer requirements. If printers insist on increasing the unit price of a print product and maintain their profit margin; perhaps there are not many alternatives, but to ask customers to reduce order quantity, or find cheaper source of supplies, or revise product specifications, or reduce the cost of production.
It is imperative for every printer to sit back, review and analyze thoroughly its enterprise, chart a future for itself in the face of brutal market competition.
Most printers upgraded their ¡§Hardware¡¨, e.g. adopting CTP, high-speed press machine, computerized paper cutter, CIP4, and other equipment in order to generate faster and better throughput. True, this upgrade brings higher efficiency. But once printers enter the similar entry level with similar level of hardware superiority, where are the competitive differentiators? What are the niches? Perhaps the answer is ¡§Systematic Management Development¡¨. It brings breakthrough in enhancing the overall company competitiveness.

In small-scale print enterprise, management has its own set of challenges because:
- Company¡¦s strategy, business model, people and resources are evolving
- Success or failure of the company is very much dependence on key person¡¦s individual experience and dedication.
Once the company grows to medium or large-scale print enterprise, a new set of management difficulties:
- ¡§Department Wall¡¨ become thick, focusing on its own set of activities
- Concentrate on addressing superior¡¦s needs, and not customer¡¦s needs
- Information flow is not direct and error-prone, causes hidden lost, material waste, rejected goods, poor resource utilization, late goods delivery, late quotation submission.
- Busy iterate the same cycle:
1. Discuss the same issues,
2. Repeat the same problems,
3. Work on piece-meal solution
Therefore, built-in Artificial Intelligence is the solution to address the ever-challenging needs of the printing industry:
- The Artificial Intelligent will address 90% of the daily of cost estimating and production planning in an effective manner
- Enable management to leverage on Artificial Intelligent to enhance overall competitiveness: sales and marketing, production, business strategy, human capital and knowledge capital sharing.
- Establish end-to-end information flow centralized on customer¡¦s needs, e.g. quotation, price, cost breakdown, product specifications, job planning, job status in real-time and goods delivery schedule.
- Build a system with well-coordinated work flow, easily skill transfer and well-informed decision making enterprise.
